The present study aims to perform the investigation of the removal of copper from copper sludge using granulated red mud. The granulated red mud was prepared using a solid-liquid separation process and the removal of copper from the copper sludge and its effect on the removal of copper from the copper sludge using varying amounts of adsorbent were studied. The adsorption of copper using red mud was found to be rapid and effective. Maximum removal of copper from copper sludge was obtained at 300 and 600 rpm rotation speed. The pH for maximum removal of copper was found to be 2.6. This novel approach can be useful for large-scale treatment of copper sludge. The enzymes have revolutionized the way we manufacture products and processes around the world. There are approximately 100 million tons of fermentable carbohydrates produced annually in the world (Beinhauer & Garza 2007 ). P. fluorescens have been reported for the production of laccase (PlacA) at 20-80 degrees centigrade and optimum pH around 5.0. Cu(II) may act as a strong oxidizing agent and is capable of inducing high levels of laccase production in P. fluorescens at 1-15 mg/l lucA. The application of P. fluorescens for the production of laccase at high levels and at optimal conditions have been reported.
